Our day in Split!
Last night before bed we doodle duo'd with Jon and Katenwho are in France which was cool! Someone in the same time zone!

This morning we had a leisurely breakfast on our terrace while we read through what we would do today.

First stop was Diocletian's Palace. This palace is from about 300AD. It is crazy. Some of it is excavated ruins that you can tour. The rest of it has just been woven into the city. So parts of the ruined palace are restaurants, gift shops, banks and even people's apartments! It's so weird! Here are some pics.

Trev pretending he is Diocletian and greeting his followers (look carefully!).
These blocks fit together to make pipes!

We climbed this bell tower and that's when I realized that I just don't really annoy that. This one wasn't as terrifying as the last one but it was still scary and my legs were shaking for an hour after!

After that we wandered around the palace (stores and restaurants).

A modern bank inside the walls of the palace with parts of the palace still visible!

After lunch we hiked up to a view point.

And that is where our day took a weird turn!

It was actually pretty good. We were super thirsty after the walk so we drank the iced teas. And we picked nuggets (currently in our fridge for a late night snack tonight) and apples as the side (not the cut up ones you get in Canada, just a whole apple). So now we have some apples to eat with breakfast tomorrow. Plus 3 awesome Croatian souvineers! đŸ˜‰

In this area of the palace there was a traditional klapa group (acapela) performing.

We eventually found a pizza place for lunch

And that is where our day took a weird turn!
As we waited for our bus in Ljubljana we noticed that the McDonalds happy meal toy was Pokemon toys (and the kids love Pokemon!). We've been looking for souvineers for them but honestly we are not souvinwer people. Every single thing we see is stupid, tacky garbage. These toys we knew they'd love!
We didn't have any euros left at the time we saw them and had to catch our bus. I looked up the current happy meal toy in Canada and saw that it wasn't Pokemon. And so today Trev and I decided to walk to the Split McDonalds (about a 25 minute walk) to buy 3 happy meals!
It was actually pretty neat because the McDonalds isn't in a touristy area. It's in a real Croation mall outside of the tourist zone. So to get there we had to walk through real Split.
