Leaving Slovenia and Into Croatia!

We got up today (finally I had a great sleep!) and checked out of our hotel at 10am. We had mad ourselves the grilled cheese breakfast I mentioned in yesterday's post which turned out pretty good.

We walked to catch our 11am bus. In the way we saw this cute school group.

We have seen the cutest little school groups around!

This is the group at the market the previous day working on their assignment!  Most of the groups had some sort of identifier with bandanas or scarves or vests or something. So cute!

We expected to get on a big greyhound bus but instead we got in a 9 seater van.

It was just under 4 hours to Rovinj (quite a few short stops on the way and it was a scenic ride with much of it down the coast.

It was a short walk to our Air B&B and our host was at the door waiting for us when we got here. She spoke no English but showed us around and brought us some chocolate!

This is our room, a 4 minute (uphill) walk from town!

This is our view from our window!

We wasted no time in going on the Rick Steves self guided walk of Rovinj. Rovinj is not very big. The walk took an hour and we basically saw all there is to see here. That's not a bad thing though!  Tomorrow we plan to find a sunny spot on the rocks and do some swimming and snorkelling and probably rent some bikes and do a bit of shopping!

There aren't a lot of site so I'll mainly just post some pics from our walk!

This is a horrible picture but it was so bright it was hard to get one that focused properly. We will try to get o e tomorrow morning g when the light is better!

After this calm and relaxing walk, we decided to do the most terrifying thing I've ever done: climb to the top of the tower in the church. We paid our admission and started up. The 'stairs are random wooden planks. They are random distances apart with fairly big spaces in between them. They are very skinny. They are different sizes and weird shapes (not flat). And it just went up and up and up. It was terrifying. Just terrifying. On a scale of 1 to 10 the luge in Bled was a 3...this was a 10!

The weird, skinny, rounded, oddly spaced 'stairs'.

I hung onto the railings for my life and tried not to look down!

The views were great at the top though!

Then we had to go down!  This was even more terrifying because in order to see where you had to put your foot on the rail (remember they weren't evenly spaced or sized), you could see the entire horrible staircase below you. Sooo scary!  When I got to the top I checked my heart rate and it says it was 159!  And it was not a strenuous climb!

See part 2.
