Ljubljana Day 2
To start, so you can say the name of this city in your head while you read, it's Ljubljana (lyoob-leey-ah-nah)
The view from the door of our hotel.

Breakfast was supposedly included in the price of the room (make your own with provided supplies). But the provided supplies were a sealed bag of white bread, butter and 2 yogurts.

We ate the yogurt, passed in the toast and got pastries instead! There is a funny little sandwich press (no toaster) that I guess you are supposed to use in the bread? We got some delicious cheese from the deli today and I'm going to use it tomorrow to try to make the bread into grilled cheese!

After that market we saw a bit of architecture pointed out by our 'guide' Rick Steves!

All around Europe you see these locks on bridges. Couples lock a lock on and throw away the key to symbolize their love!

Lots of electric cars and charging stations around!

Anywho the weather was starting to look a bit better now. We decided to head up to the castle. We took a funicular to get up the side of the mountain.

Taken inside the funicular

The castle really wasn't anything too exciting. There were great views though!

We were getting hungry so we headed for lunch. We found a little lane we hadn't been down before and ended up eating at the perfect little place. I wanted to order something traditional so I picked the cheesy dumplings with mushroom sauce. Trev picked homemade prochiutto ravioli and I had a bit and it was delicious. Mine was good too but it was a lot of starch! especially after we had started the meal with bread (which may have been the best bread we've ever had so it was worth it!).

After lunch we took a quick break at our hotel and then ventured off again!

They also had great bathrooms, which in Europe is a great find!
Tomorrow we take the bus to Rovinj Croatia!
I woke up early this morning and did some stuff around the room while waiting for Trev to wake up. Right outside our door is the Ljubljana market.

We wandered around the market a bit and stopped at one of the stalls for some breakfast. It was drizzling and a bit chilly this morning!

After breakfast we walked all around the stalls of food and clothing. It was quite colourful and I'd say 90% of the people there were locals buying produce. We chose 2 nectarines to enjoy for a morning snack!

We also went down into the stinky fish market!

Also, everywhere we go in Slovenia people have dyed orange hair. Not orange as in looks like a redhead. Just orange. It's so weird. And I'm not just talking about young people. In face 90% of people with the orange hair are 40-60+ women, who other than the hair are dressed perfectly normal! It's so strange!

We got down and ate our nectarines (washing them in the cool fountain).

That little thing on the ravioli is a pice of fried, crispy cheese!

After lunch we took a quick break at our hotel and then ventured off again!
We did a tour of a few Jose Plecnic architectural points (he's the architecture responsible for designing most of Ljubljana).
Then we walked to the bus station to purchase a ticket to Rovinj for tomorrow.
The. We walked over to the skyscraper, a huge building with incredible views of the city. For 12 euros ($18) Trev had a beer and I had a margarita and we sat there for an hour enjoying this beautiful spot! Money well spent for expensive drinks!

They also had great bathrooms, which in Europe is a great find!
From here we walked over to Tigoli Park and wandered through a very interesting photography execution on the National Parks of the United States and Slovenia.
Then we did a bit of a Rock Staves walk back towards our hotel and that's where we are now! Enjoying a glass of wine (why didn't we bring our plastic wine glasses 🤔?)
We are now going to head out to find something light for dinner:
1. Because we had a big lunch.
2. Because we have17 euros left and we need to make it last until tomorrow when we go into Croatia where they use a different currency (the kuna)
Two other things I noticed:
1. There are tiny kids riding balance bikes all over. Like 2 year olds riding balance bikes perfectly with a family who is actually riding bikes to get somewhere. Like long distances! It's amazing!
2. One of the things I love about Ljubljana is it feels like Slovenians are everywhere. Even in the main touristy areas, it feels like 90% of the people around are locals!
Tomorrow we take the bus to Rovinj Croatia!
