Whistler to Revelstoke
OK my pictures came in backwards for some reason tonight and because our hotel doesn't have wifi in the rooms I am using Trev's data and don't want to do it again so we will have to just do the day backwards!
Today we went from Whistler to Revelstoke. It's about a 6.5 hour drive. The forecast was not looking good but it wasn't raining when we got up so we decided to move our butts along quickly and try to get to a hike we wanted to do! The hike was about 20 minutes in and 20 minutes out and it brought us to a site where a train had wrecked in the 50s. They didn't know what to do with the rail cars so they had a logging vehicle just pull them into the bush and they left them there. They have since been taken over by graffiti artists and have also become popular with mountain bikers with jumps made on and around them. It was actually a very cool place! Unfortunately while we were looking at the rail cars it started to rain quite hard and we were pretty wet by the time we got back to Big Chungus. We had hoped to go to the waterfall we skipped yesterday but it was very wet so we decided to just get on the road. We had a full day of driving ahead of us to get to Revelstoke and we didn't want to get in too late.
About an hour into the drive I looked back and Anna looked white as a ghost and she said she was going to throw up. I threw her a bag and she proceeded to throw up. Looks like she inherited my car sickness gene! When you see the timelapses below you will see why she got car sick. It was a pretty wild ride today with so many twists and turns and ups and downs! Unfortunately it rained about 75% of the time. But every once in a while we'd emerge into a sunny spot and be able to enjoy the mountain scenery for a bit until we hit a wall of rain again.
We stopped for lunch at a Tim Hortons in a random little town. There was a grocery store in the same parking lot so I grabbed some snacks for the car ride, some breakfast stuff and some saltines for Anna to much on to try to get rid of the car sickness. Thankfully she was ok for the rest of the ride.
We also made a quick stop at a mall and got Joel and Owen a new pair of pants. As I mentioned, Owen ended up with only one pair of pants here (I accidentally switched the pair of jeans I had packed with a pair jeans I had set for the value village pile that were 2 sizes too small on the morning when we left). With 4-5 days of pouring rain in the forecast, and Joel only having jeans, we decided to pick up a couple of pairs of pants that would be better to dry out than jeans. We were in and out in 15 minutes.
We pulled into our hotel in Revelstoke around 6pm. It's an old timey, interesting chalet type place that has a lot of interesting features! It has a ghost town attached to it. It has a great games area. A pool and hot tub (which we didn't have a chance to do tonight). They make their own electricity. They have no wifi in the guest rooms (just in the lobby). They have a great garden that leads down to a beautiful lake view (you can swim in the summer!). We had dinner at the restaurant on site (we are sort of in the middle of nowhere). It was a decent meal. We spent a little while in the games room and then headed up to bed. Tomorrow we are driving to Lake Louise. The idea was to make our way slowly from Revelstoke to Lake Louise, stopping several times along the way for hikes and site seeing. We also planned to do the Revelstoke Pipe Mountain coaster, but it doesn't run in the rain. Given that it's supposed to pour all day we aren't quite sure what we'll do tomorrow but we'll try to make the best of it!
Here are our backwards pictures!
