Last Day in Drumheller

Friday was the last day of the trip.  :( It was a great day though!  We started of the day at the Royal Tyrrell Museum which focuses on dinosaurus and more specifically fossils. Drumeller is an area where they find a lot of fossils and the museum is really fantastic.  It is really well done, the technology is great, flow through the museum is excellent and all of the information is really fantastic!

Owen made pretending to be eaten by this dinosaur

Some pics from inside the museum.

The fossils they had were so cool!

The biggest fossil:  Black Beauty: a t-rex!

Spinning!

Dinosaur footprint fossils

Lots of interactive displays!

Trev compared to the leg of a t-rex!

Outside of the museum there was a small hike.

We then drove into Drumheller and found a spot for lunch.  We decided on Chinese Food.  Again, there are dinosaurs literally everywhere on almost every building/business in drumheller!

Owen had been desperate for bubble tea and finally got one!

After lunch we went to a gift store.

Then we went to Horsethief Canyon which is a lookout, for some pictures.

The most fun thing about Horsethief Canyon was these groundhogs.  They were everywhere and the kids had lots of fun playing with them as they popped out of the holes!

We then went over this little car ferry.  The entertainment was when this lady drove right through the chain barrier to get onto the ferry platform instead of waiting for the guy to remove the chain (she hadn't seen it).

Orkney Lookout.  Just a quick stop.

Then we drove back into town and got some snacks for the plane ride at this grocery store.

Last real stop of the day was to recreate the picture that my parents and Rob and Val took when they were in Drumheller!

We brought some pizza back to our AirBNB and spent some time getting ourselves 98% packed for the trip home since we knew we'd be getting in late.  And then finally we were off to the Jurassic World Dominion Premier!

For about an hour before the show, right outside the theatre they had presentations by the Royal Tyrrell Museum plus activities for the kids, face painting, etc.

Finally we went into the movie!  We all got popcorn and a drink and enjoyed the show.  Anna was definitely ready to go by the end of it!  It was late and the show was very loud (I wished we had brought ear plugs).  But it was enjoyable and what you would expect by a Jurassic Park movie!  Lots of people being eaten and chased by dinosaurs!  Haha!  Joel really loved this part and I'm glad we did it!

It was close 11pm by the time we got back to our AirBNB and we had to be on the road for 7:30am so we got right to bed.

Dropping off the Big Chungus was a sad moment :( We really enjoyed that vehicle and were sad to get back to our old, clunky Dodge Caravan.  We put 2600 km on the rental and 800 on our vehicle for a total of 3400km in 15 days!  Not bad!

Sad to say goodbye to Big Chungus!

All in all, Anna was the only one ready to go home.  Owen could have gone for ages more.  Joel said he would like to go home for 1 or 2 days and then continue.  Trev and I both could have gone longer although that's pretty common for us.  The only trip I've ever been ready to come home from was our 9 week trip to Europe.  2 weeks isn't long enough!

All in all a fantastic trip!  If I find the energy this week, I may do one more post about what we learned travelling with 3 kids!

A few last pics from Trev's camera and a video of the groundhogs!
