Tokyo - Day 2

I had the best sleep last night and didn’t wake up until 7 AM. When my alarm went off, I couldn’t believe it. I was hoping to sleep until 6 AM since I had slept until 5 AM the day before but it sure

I had the best sleep last night and didn’t wake up until 7 AM. When my alarm went off, I couldn’t believe it. I was hoping to sleep until 6 AM since I had slept until 5 AM the day before but it sure felt good to get a full night sleep

Was only about a half hour to get to Warner Brothers Studios, where we were headed, but we accidentally got on the wrong train and headed in the wrong direction and we had to get off that train and figure out how to get on the new trains. this is us wandering through the city on foot from one train station to the next to try to readjust..

Probably not the most interesting blog post today especially if you’re not a Harry Potter fan it’s mainly a bunch of videos from the Harry Potter Studios tour in Tokyo it really is quite an amazing place. It’s absolutely huge and has many set pieces and costumes from the Harry Potter movies. They also have quite good displays in English telling you about the sound design set prop actors, etc. it was quite well done and we all enjoyed it.

Before I get into it as a reminder, this is the charity we donated to in an amount equal to our admission this charity help support LGBT people from around the world get to safe locations if their country is not safe for them.

Many costumes from the movies. Harris!

I love this professor Trelawney costume

The great Hall

The staircase moved. It was really cool.

We did this thing where you stand and they take your video and then they project it into some of the moving pictures on the wall walls all around the room very neat See previous picture for how it looked

Slytherin common room

This was a cool thing that we didn’t do where they had people stand, and they’d take videos of them cheering and booing and ducking watching a Quidditch game and then they loop it all into a video of Harry Potter playing Quidditch with them as the crowd

This was a cool spot where you could design your old own death eater mask, and then they would project it onto the masks on the wall around the room

Owen‘s death eater mask

Anna‘s death eater mask

Hermione‘s Yule ball dress

I’m bridges costume

The mirror of Erised

Anna with Lord Voldemort spooky

Entering the forbidden forest

Cool animatronics of Hagrid and Bucky. You could go up and bow to buck Beacon. He would bow back.

Visiting Hagrid’s hut

Halfway through the museum, there was a restaurant and we stopped for food and butter beer

I got a bento box

My bento box

Joel Trev and Anna all got this roast beef Gryffindor dinner. It was quite delicious.

Dobby

It was about 1 PM when we finished at the Harry Potter tour and we metro home we took maybe a half hour break in the room just for some downtime when we got back. We headed out around 2 PM but this time we split up Anna and I went to a cat café. Joel stayed back in the room for a rest and Trev and Owen went to a climbing gym.  Just thought these things from the 711 were funny so I grabbed pictures. One is salad chicken just a big piece of unseasoned chicken. The second is a piece of chocolate tofu.

This cut café was much less fancy than the first one we went to, but Anna still had fun hanging out for an hour with the cats

While we were doing that, Trevor and Owen were climbing at the climbing gym The pictures are a bit mixed up because they are coming from both Trevor and my camera and are in the order they were taken

They gave us these little marshmallow chocolate things because apparently tomorrow is a Japanese holiday called white day

After that, Joel came out with Anna and I and we went across the street to Don Quiote (the department store)

Shopping We bought a bunch of different try and a few other things

This is out of order, but on the left is Joel and Trev on Hagrid’s motorcycle at Universal when we were there a few years ago and on the right was from today

After climbing, we all met back at the Airbnb and had another half hour rest or so Then we went to an Izakaya for dinner and Izakaya is a Japanese bar/pub It’s typical to order a whole bunch of different finger foods to share with the table

Just thought I’d show how useful Google Translate was. I had made a reservation for this place at 7 PM but we were ready for dinner much earlier and didn’t want to stay out that late so we just typed this in and showed it to them when they we got to the door and it was perfectly good.

The way it works here is that you order on an app? It’s kind of like all you can eat sushi where you order over and over and they just keep bringing the food to your table except that it’s not fixed price you pay for each dish you order it was pretty challenging because there was no English on the menu so we had to translate everything with our phones to know what we were ordering.

Here we have two types of gyoza And some french fries

Then we got some assorted pickles and some cucumbers with sesame oil and some soft boiled eggs

I can’t remember what this chicken is, but it was so delicious

Then we got a Japanese style omelette. It actually had octopus in it. The waitress came over and poured broth on top of it, and we ate pieces of it in the broth.

Got some kimchi egg rolls

This karagge chicken was honestly some of the best chicken I’ve ever had. It was so flavourful and so juicy.

Then we ordered seconds of all of the things that we loved

Ramune soda

Please filled up while we were there and it got quite bustling

This was on the wall. This is the Google translation of it. We saw several tables rock paper scissoring with their waitresses.

The last thing we ordered was this we just couldn’t resist trying it. It was listed as potato salad that looks like an ice cream cone. This was fried chicken with crushed up hashbrowns and mayonnaise and sour cream and coleslaw and a soft boiled egg all mixed together in that cone made to look exactly like an ice cream.

After dinner, Owen walked back to the Airbnb while Joel and Trev and I walked down this little side street that we saw in near our Airbnb that we wanted to check out

At the end of the street, we found this random thing which is Mount Fuji made of Christmas lights

And to end off the post, this is a random corn on the cob that we found for sale at Don Qiite when we stopped in to grab something before we went back to the Airbnb

Quieter and slower day today which was nice and much needed. 16,400 steps!

  1. I love the shots of the izakaya showing the people .. you are immersed in the real deal and not tourist there! I like seeing what they are wearing and shoes. The chicken ice cream cone is hilarious! klr
