Arrival Day!
Our flight was really good and uneventful today. It left on time.
Anna and I did a scavenger hunt at
We used compression socks for the long 14 hour flight
We paid a little bit extra for the bulkhead row and I think it was definitely worth every cent. There’s a bit of a risk for the bulkhead row that there might be babies in that row since there are bassinet spots, but we had no babies. The extra legroom was fantastic. It allowed us to stand up and move a lot more on the flight than we would have in a normal row.
We got a choice of pork with rice or beef and mashed potatoes for dinner
The little teeny soy sauce container was my favourite part
Woo hoo they had a sourdough documentary on the flight
This is how far I could stretch my legs out
Midway through the flight, they brought us tuna wraps, and cookies
And then right before we landed they gave us breakfast, which was kind of funny since it was about 2 AM Toronto time and 4 PM Tokyo time so it wasn’t breakfast time at all. It did actually feel like breakfast though since we had slept on the plane, we got a choice of an omelet or a noodle dish.
This was our first fancy Japanese toilet spotting at the airport
We had hired a van to take us from the airport to our Airbnb, and I think that was an excellent decision. It would’ve been exhausting to try to figure out the transit system. After that long flight we were happy to let someone else do the driving and just get us right to our door.
Our Airbnb is excellent. It’s in a fantastic location just steps from the main subway line which is exactly what we were looking for. It has four bedrooms so we each have our own bedroom. It also has a second bathroom that’s you just need to duck outside and go up a set of stairs, which is nice so that we have two showers when we’re getting ready in the morning. I laughed because every single review of this Airbnb gave it almost 5 stars but they also all mentioned that the access was down a short rat infested Alley. I was very interested to walk down this alley but I didn’t see any rats tonight. Well worth the rotten infested Alley for this Airbnb.
The showers in Japan are all wet shower so you stand right on the floor not in the bathtub while you shower my shower tonight was actually amazing. The water pressure is so strong in the shower.
One nice thing about Japanese apartment is that the toilet sink and shower are all in three separate rooms. This makes it really much easier when you’re getting ready with five people in the morning. Also, this toilet when you flush it runs water through the sink that’s on the top of the toilet so you can wash your hands while it fills the tank.
Our Airbnb host left us this tray of snacks
Once we got checked in, we walked to the 711 which is a three minute walk away to get some snacks. The boys stayed home while Anna and Trevor and I went. Unfortunately Joel started with a cold the day before we went so he’s not feeling the greatest.
We got a variety of things for breakfast tomorrow as well as some snacks for tonight
