Took a sick day ๐Ÿคข

Well our last night in Monteverde I woke up in the middle of the night not feeling well. I went and got some water, hoping that would help but soon I was throwing up. This turned into the sickest I’ve been in a really long time. We were meant to be out of our AirBNB by 8am to head to La Fortuna but there was just no way I could manage that. I resigned myself that we were just going to have to miss a couple of things and I stayed in bed while Trev took the kids to a cafe for breakfast.  Trev packed everything up and loaded it in the car

We had to be checked out by 11am and I literally didn’t know how I was even going to walk down to the car let alone make it through the 3.5hour drive. Remember that this is the windey drive down a mountain. It was awful. ๐Ÿ˜ข I just had to tell myself there was nothing we could do and we just did it. I had a barf bucket up front and we just started the drive. Near the bottom of the mountain Anna barfed. And then she threw up again before we made it to La Fortuna  I somehow made it to the Airbnb without needing to stop and when we pulled in I literally could not have made it one more minute. I didn’t even look around the Airbnb, just ran straight for the bathroom and then got straight into the bed and stayed there for the rest of the evening/night.

The worst drive. I was so sick ๐Ÿ˜”

Rainforest roads leading into La Fortuna

We had a night hike planned. Anna and I stayed back and a Trev and the boys went. They saw some tree frogs, some wild boars/pigs, a dangerous pit viper.

Thank goodness I started feeling a bit better and got a decent night sleep. I am feeling about 75% today I’d say. I’m just low energy from not eating and food is still turning me off a bit.

Our AirBNB has one huge room for all of us!

Rainy day in La Fortuna
Outside of our AirBNB

Our plans had been all screwed up by the delay in leaving yesterday. The original plan was a hike with great views of the Arenal Volcano. Unfortunately because of the weather, you cannot see the Arenal volcano at all ๐Ÿ˜”  just white clouds filling the sky. Because of that and my energy level, we decided to cut that activity.

We figure we’d go to La Fortuna Waterfall. I was a bit nervous because to get to the waterfall is 500 steps down and the 500 steps up!  But it’s an amazing place to swim and it’s so hot so we figured we’d head over and I could take my time. But when we were purchasing admission, the lady told us that because of the rain the waterfall was muddy and the currents were too strong to swim. So we could head down but know we couldn’t swim. After consideration we decided to skip it. This is what it would have looked like.

It’s very hot and muggy in La Fortuna today. The rain actually feels amazing!

Going to unfortunately need to leave it there tonight. I wrote most of this when we took an afternoon break. We are just arriving back at our hotel after a full day and I’m SO tired I desperately just need to crash into bed. Sorry for the boring post!
