Today we were up bright and early to meet our fishing charter at 7am. We wanted to get out before the heat of the day hit. It was 27C at 7am! 😮 The pictures came in backwards again 😡 so you get to see the result if the day, me carrying a bag of fish! 😂 That’s our boat, The Salty Mermaid, behind me.
Joel, Owen and Trev each pulled in a barracuda 😮
Anna and I were happier to hang out in the back of the boat and watch but Anna did reel in one Tina (see below)
We stopped at a little island with a cave and walked around a bit. One of our guides showed us a starfish and a (dead) crab 😂 There was also a monkey running around the island

Starfish - Note Joel’s sunburn in his face yesterday. His nose is starting to blister.ing now. This is from 2 hours of surfing despite the fact that we slathered with sunscreen before going out there |
When we went to climb back in the boat from the shallow part of the ocean, it was a big step up. I led with my good knee. When I had to use my other leg to launch off I felt a big pop in my knee. Shoot! It hurt a bit and I felt so disappointed. I made it through the most difficult hikes and then I reinsure myself climbing into a boat? 😠I took it easy for the rest of the boat ride (standing up in a rocking boat in the ocean takes constant bracing with your knees). It felt ok when I got back to land and it’s been pretty good for the rest of the day. I’m hoping I don’t wake up in pain tomorrow!

Spoiler alert since the pics are backwards. We caught a lot of black fin tuna. One of the guides made us this tuna sashimi. He cut thin slices of tuna and then covered them in thin green onions and then squeezed lime juice on it and then added Chili sauce in Tom. You took a piece of pineapple and then put the tuna with the onions. It was good!
At one point we came across this giant flock of pelicans! 😮
We got a few tuna!

This was so exciting to watch Joel reel in…it’s a rooster fish! |
Walking along a mostly empty beach to get to our boat in the morning!
This is what it looked like where we were catching the tunas! Huge schools of jumping fish!

The view
They gave us some of the fish to take home and told us we could take it to a certain restaurant and they’d cook it for us for a small fee and we could get the rice, veggies etc with it. So we kept the fish in the fridge. Then at supper I walked over to the restaurant and it was closed. 😔 So I walked to a different restaurant and they said they could do it but only had a reservation time that was too late for us. Then I asked at another restaurant and they said they do it but their kitchen was closed tonight. 😂 I was trying to think of what to do with a giant bag of fresh fish. I decided to offer it to the Airbnb caretaker. He doesn’t speak a word of English so I typed it out in google translate to ask if he wanted the fish we caught today. His eyes lit up and he said yes so I was able to give him a huge bag of fresh fish! Google translate has come in handy. There is also a google app where you can hold the phone in front of something written and it translates the text! It’s awesome at the grocery store when you are trying to read a label etc.
After fishing we had lunch (leftover from our picnic last night) back at the Airbnb and the. We took a couple of hours to just veg in the air conditioning.
Mid afternoon. We headed out to spend the rest of the afternoon at the beach. Joel stayed and swam for a while but he was a bit sunned out so he headed back to the AC after a bit. Anna and Owen played in the sand and waves for ours with me blasting them with sunscreen every half hour 😆 Trev and I sat in the shade and went in the ocean every 20 minutes to cool down. It was a great and lazy afternoon

How Anna looked all afternoon 😂 |

There were iguanas all over the beach. At one point we could see 5! |

Anna selfie with the iguana (can you spot it?) |

We bought the tee based sunscreen which is the zinc kind so we are all constantly white and have given up on trying to rub it in! |

Supper pics came in backwards too! We got this ice cream at the store on our walk back after supper |
And before I sign off, I am absolutely in love with our AirBNB. It is Perfect. Tons of space, an awesome courtyard, washing machine, outdoor shower to run de off after the beach, comfy beds, cold AC, and the location cannot be beat!!
 |
This was our setup in the beach today. If you look right above the chair to the left of Trev you will see a white gate. That’s the gate to our AirBNB. It’s literally steps to the beach. Because it’s so close we can bring these chairs to the beach which is so much more comfortable that sitting on sandy towels! We can run back to go to the washroom, get more drinks, the kids can come and go nuts perfect! Our rental car also came with this small cooler which has been amazing to have also! |

And this is the view from sitting in these chairs. That’s Owen and Anna at the ocean back there! |
