Here are the pics from Trev’s breakfast in Monteverde with the kids while I was sick Allison and Aaron had recommended a great breakfast cafe so they went there

It was a crepes and waffles sort of place! |
These are the pics from the twilight hike Trev and the boys took on the first night in La Fortuna at Mistico Park. They had a guide who took pictures through his telescope!

It was raining but hot so it was comfortable |

Cool panoramic shot the guide took! |
I forgot to put the pictures in from zipping a few days ago. First is ziplining into the clouds. Second is the vertical drop. It looks so much scarier in real life. 😬
So yesterday the Bogarin was so fun! It’s a sanctuary where sloths hang out. You can walk the trails with a guide or on your own. We were going to pay for a hide but when we got there there weren’t any guided tours for 2.5 hours so we figured we’d try our luck without a hide. The lady said that if we didn’t spot any sloths, we could come back at 1pm and just pay the difference to walk the trail again with a guide.
La Fortuna is very hot and muggy. But the trail was nice and flat and enjoyable. The sloths hang out high in the trees so we were walking looking straight up to see what we could see!
We walked for about an hour and didn’t see any sloths, but did see some other cool things!

Owen thought the vines from the tree were super cool |

Any sloths? |
Spotted anti y cute lizard hiding in the leaves

There were lots of these tiny poison dart frogs around. This is why you wear closed to shoes in the rain forest and don’t go off the path

We were getting close to the end of the trail and wondering if we were going to have to come back later with a guide when suddenly a guide who was near us with another group waved at us and told us to come with him. He had just got word of a sloth near the ground. This is really rare because sloths spend almost all their time up high in the trees and only come down once a week to poop! Turns out he suspected that these two male sloths got in a fight over a female sloth and one had to retreat when he lost the fight. So when we arrived, one sloth was in a tree very close to the ground and the other was up high on a tree. They were both really active and it was so fun to watch them. We were able to make several groups’ days by waving them over and pointing them out also which was great.
Even though they were pretty close to the ground, they are still hard to take pictures of because their cam of laughed is so good. The videos show them better! |
 |
He looks like big foot in this pic |
 |
The one that was high above is. He could hang from below the branches with his claws. It was crazy |
 |
The view from the ground 😂 |
We had lunch at the restaurant at the reserve. Joel was thrilled with this huge burger he got!
 |
This pesto pasta was the best option I thought for my stomach but I was unfortunately only able to eat a few bites of it. Still was definitely not 100% |
From there we headed back to our AirBNB for a quick break. But first a quick stop at a grocery store and at a chocolate shop to get some Costa Rican chocolate and some ice cream!
 |
Had to take a pic of this volcano because I think it’s the best volcano we will see in La Fortuna! 😂 |
 |
We don’t even know where the real volcano is! Maybe behind these clouds? 😂 |
 |
Stock photo of what we would be seeing if it cleared up! |

Then we went back for a little break in the room before our next activity. I took some quiet time to rest while Trev and the kids checked out the games are of the AirBNB
Because this is a volcano area, there are tons of hot springs everywhere we went to Baldi Hostprings and it was amazing!
I think they had 29 pools or something? Natural saunas. Alldifferent temperatures. water slides. Swim up bars. Very cool!

Arriving |
Sorry they are all a bit fuzzy because they are taken through my waterproof case

Owen going down the kiddy slide 😂 |
 |
Owen and Anna braved this slide which was quite intense! |
 |
Photo bombed! 😆 |
 |
Better pic of how violently this slide shoots you out at the end. This is Anna 😂 |
We got dry and had dinner at the restaurant on site. At this point all I could think of was my bed I was so tired. 😴 but I managed to eat most of my pasta to try to get some energy back.
 |
Anna got shrimp penne and it had so much shrimp! |
When we got back I went straight to bed while Trev and the kids played a few rounds of pool in the games room!
One last day in Costa Rica before we head home!!
So amazing to see 'real' sloths ! The hot springs and natural saunas .... ! Wow that whole place looked so absolutely amazing. It must have felt so wonderful- I just loved those pictures! It's really unfortunate that you haven't seen the volcano...but wow...what an absolutely amazing adventure you have had !
ReplyDeleteHilarious to me that you think the kids "braved" the slide after you showed videos of ziplining. How on earth could that slide be worse than the zip line? One little clip, a harness and a rope that did not get EM tested LOLOL. Love the photos, the commentary and following along. Safe travels back. klr
