Don’t mind the typos. It’s hard to write this from my phone and I’m not bothering to go back and correct it all! We got out of the house smoothly yesterday and got to our hotel around 8pm. We had a great room and it was free with points! Yay!
We left the hotel at 6:30am, dropped the van at Park N Ride and had a smooth experience at the airport! We were at a funny gate which we’ve never been to before. We walked for like 20 minutes to get there. It’s in the middle of nowhere. Very weird!

There were kids here who had these awesome carry in bags that a scooter folded down from and they were zooming around the airport! π

The flight was pretty uneventful. It is about a 6 hour flight. We landed a bit early in Liberia but we had to wait half an hour before a gate opened up for us so we ended up getting off the plane a bit late. We were at the very back of the plane so we got to immigration behind everyone else. It seemed to take a long time to get through that but once we were through, our bag was ready to go and the guy was there to meet us with our rental car.
It is extremely hot. Mid 30s. First stop was a grocery store. We had a fairly long list. We needed breakfasts, lunch for toTomorrow, supper for tonight, snacks, coffee, milk, drinks for for the kids, beer, bottled water. It was fun to browse around the grocery store but also stressful since we were running out of daylight and I didn’t want to drive in the dark. .
We are in a foreign country so we couldn’t just grab the usuals for breakfast. No muffins, bagels, croissants. We got a loaf of bread and some yogurt. I thought we would grab a frozen pizza for dinner but they didn’t really have any convenience food. We ended up grabbing some chicken fingers and frozen fries which turned into a bit of a mess because our stove is very weird. The chicken fingers have been cooking fir 2 hours now and are still not done. π we have ended up eating the bread we got for breakfast tomorrow for supper plus some random snacks we corn we will survive!
We got to the Airbnb just as the sun was setting. It was about a 45 minute drive from Liberia. We are in a little village called Curubande. .
Jorge, our host met us and shows us the place. It’s ok. The main part of the unit is so hot it feels like you are in a sauna but the bedrooms are air conditioned. The property and location are great. I’d call this place Family Reunion chic (for the Blasuttis reading). All in all I’m good with it for a couple of nights!
The host, Jorgenis really the best part! π I really wanted to unpack and eat. We were exhausted and sweaty and starving. But Jorge, who barely speaks a word of English, invited us to his patio for a beer! π We sat with him for half an hour with him chatting entirely in Spanish and with gestures etc I’d say we followed about 75% of the conversation! π
We unpacked and went for a swim in the lovely pool to cool down. The stars were out and it was beautiful. We packed our day bags for tomorrow’s adventures, the kids are writing in their journals and we are all heading to bed exhausted. First full day of adventure to come tomorrow!
What a great start to your trip...everything falling into place ! Love that your Airbnb Host is so friendly ...and glad you had a pool to jump into ! Hilarious that your chicken fingers still weren't cooked after two hours ...glad you had that bread! LOL ! Have a great sleep- I'm sure you are all exhausted !
